“Can depressed people finish university?”

Posted by: Laura on: September 3, 2008

That’s one of the search terms with which people have found my blog.

And the answer is…

Yes, they can!

Lots of people have depression, and lots of people have degrees, and I’m sure the two must cross over somewhere.

With the right help, and a whole lot of determination, I think it is possible for depressed people to do anything that they want to do with their lives – including university, employment, and anything else they can think of!

This is not a promise that I will finish university – I intend to do my best, but I don’t know if I’m strong enough, and you never do know what will happen in the future – but it is a promise that it’s possible.

So, if you found this blog through that term, take heart!

Also, I’ve set up an email address. If you want to say something to me that you don’t feel comfortable saying in a comment, feel free to email me at loopylonelyandlost@yahoo.co.uk WARNING: you’ll probably have to leave a comment saying “I’ve emailed you”, otherwise I will forget to look!

Congratulations!!! you made it to university!!! I’m 25 yr old bipolar female.. i am 4 classes away from finishing university…

I am 3 months away from finishing university. So close, but so far.

Yes they can! I live to tell the tale! :)

Depressed people can definitely finish university! I got my degree having rapid cycling bipolar disorder and severe chronic pain including headaches and migraines. I did it taking 3 courses per semester which was what I could manage at the time. I also finished full time Legal Assistant program at Niagara College and full time Television Broadcasting at Mohawk (working part-time during my 2nd year at a TV Station and full time during my 3rd year) You have to be productive when things are manageable so you can coast a bit when they get bad. Good Luck!
